Angela Burnett was born and raised in The Virgin Islands. Her passion for the future sustainable development of the Territory led her to pursue a career in the environment. In 2007 she graduated from Brandeis University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development. Angela also holds a Master of City and Regional Planning (M.C.R.P.) from the Rutgers University Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy with a dual focus in Environmental and Physical Planning and Housing and Real Estate.
Angela's primary goal as an environmental manager and planner is to promote sustainable and progressive communities that balance environmental, social and economic ambitions.
Since 2008 Angela has served with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour as an Environmental Officer with a special focus on Climate Change. In this role Angela has designed and implemented public education programming, conducted a vulnerability and capacity assessment of the tourism sector to climate change, authored the Territory’s Climate Change Policy, helped lead the development of the Virgin Islands Climate Change Trust Fund, managed local implementation of regional climate change projects and been integrally involved in development of pilot adaptation projects in communities.
Upon completion of her Master’s degree Angela spent a brief stint with the Town and Country Planning Department during which she contributed to the framework for the ongoing National Physical Development Plan as well as a draft Road Town Plan. Angela has since returned to the Ministry and continues to work closely with the climate change programme and is also involved in major policy and legislative initiatives, including the current development of a comprehensive environment bill.
Angela looks forward to continuing to help lead The Virgin Islands to a greener, more sustainable future through her work in the fields of environmental management and planning.
