Check out this interesting editorial by Robert Young* about beach restoration. What do you think? How should SAGE respond?
For a start, think about this quote from the editorial: "When federal taxpayers assume all of the risk of developing and rebuilding vulnerable coastal communities, it encourages the wrong behavior." Since SAGE is interested in the best environmental solutions, the best economic and social solutions - the answer isn't simple or straight-forward. *Robert S. Young is a professor of coastal geology and director of the Program for the Study of Developed Shorelines at Western Carolina University.

Building with Nature is a new design philosophy in hydraulic engineering.
Natural elements such as wind, currents, flora and fauna are utilized in designing a hydraulic engineering solution, thereby creating additional benefits for nature, recreation and the local economy.
